The Hill
Darek village, Central Lombok, Indonesia
Identity Verified
The Hill is a small regenerative farm in Darek village, Central Lombok. We grow vegetables, keep livestock, and are building out a syntropic grove and fish ponds — the whole place is one system, each part feeding the next. I grew up around growing food, and I farm the way I was taught: feed the soil, work with the season, keep it honest. Our guests, and the local chefs who buy from us, tell us the same thing — you can taste the difference when food is grown with care.
What they say about their practices
Self-reported by the farm — never independently audited.
- Pest & weeds
- Strong tropical pest and disease pressure year-round. Cultural controls first — spacing, companion planting, hand-weeding — then organic-approved inputs only. No synthetic pesticides or herbicides.
- Seeds & crops
- Forty-three crop types across 200+ beds, western vegetables grown experimentally for this climate. Pick what's ready, cook what's picked.
- Animals & grazing
- Five species — chickens, ducks, quail, rabbits and goats — each with a job: fertilising, clearing, grazing, laying. Two ponds raise giant gurami, slow and sweet.
